Augusto Buchweitz
Associate Professor
Psychological Sciences
Hi, welcome to the 2B2L page! I am originally from Brazil and I moved to Connecticut, and UCONN in early 2022 to start my new lab in brain imaging and language (especially early literacy). Previously, I was a professor and researcher in southern Brazil, where we developed one of the first functional MRI labs in cognitive neuroscience in the country. For a handful of years, now, I have been affiliated with the Haskins Laboratories and the Haskins Global Literacy Hub, which were an integral part of my move to UCONN. My research has been mostly focused on early literacy, developmental dyslexia and brain development, especially in underrepresented populations (Latin and Central America). This continues to be the main focus of our work. More recently, I have been involved with the development of EdTech for Early Literacy. I was the principal investigator responsible for the development of the Brazilian Portuguese version of GraphoGame, an early literacy APP. Presently, we are working on the development of an APP for automated reading fluency assessment. In the recent past, owing to strong collaborators from psychiatry and computer science, for example, we ventured into investigations of stress-related effects on neuroendocrine and brain function, and into the application of machine learning algorithms to find patterns of brain activation that characterizeddevelopmental dyslexia and autism spectrum disorder.
